More and more people in industrial countries suffer from heart problems due to an unbalanced lifestyle and increased life expectancy. The Decentral Pulse is a support system in case of heart insufficiency. Instead of centrally supporting or exchanging the failing heart, small pumps are placed into the arteries to control and manipulate the blood pressure where needed. Because the pumps run autonomously powered by a glucose fuel cell, patients are disburdened from cables and batteries. Therefore, an independent lifestyle can be maintained despite of the disease. A controlling device worn as a wristwatch allows patients to constantly be informed about their health status; but it also gives instructions in case of emergency and transmits data to an e-health platform which is monitored by the physician in charge. The core of the watch can be removed from the bracelet if patient prefer to store it elsewhere (e.g. in their pocket), or can be fixed to an alternatively designed wristlet.
