Ann Tyler, BJ Krivanek
year of making
As a visual communicator, I attempt to make the invisible visible through strategies of design. I focus on minorities who are ignored in society. We pretend not to hear the voices of the minorities who are destitute, disabled, and socially weak.
Through installation using photographic design, I tried to reveal the voices of the minorities. I examine the relationship between the general public and the marginalized through visual metaphors.
Walking through the crowded streets of the city, I observe how the public ignores the homeless, treating them as if they are invisible. This is a societal attitude towards the “other”. I have felt like there is a barrier between the public and the minorities that continues to remain invisible.
I translate the language of visual communication into an experiential installation. The viewer is offered the opportunity to think about the memory of their isolated experience and the attitude towards minorities as a participant in the artwork.
