remake of the first german translation of benvenuto cellinis (tuscan renaissance goldsmith and artist) "trattati dell´oreficeria e della scultura di benvenuto cellini(treatise on goldsmithing and sculpture by benvenuto cellini)", in combination with extracts of his lyrics and his autobiography "vita". the book shows technical instructions of work methods of the 16th century craftsman benvenuto and episodes of his live working for the medicis, the french emperor and several popes, becoming the most famous and talented goldsmith of his time, not only beeing very skilled, but also having a unique feeling for composition and inventing new techniques to cast giant bronze-statues. his mastery led to an inviolable status, he escaped judicial persecution because of several homicides, abuse and rape.
the grid is based on a renaissance grid-system used for the first italian edition. the book can stand alone but theres also a edition of posters, a medaillon and a huge brass cabinet to go with it.
