100 billion cells, 1 million cubic metres of connections, three pounds
in weight – facts about the human brain. This remarkable instrument is
the focus of our diploma project at the HTWG Konstanz.
Our designed and typographically book, entitled »Hirnreisend« (which means more or less »mindblowing«) is an exploration of what we might find out if we really could send our minds on a journey into other people’s heads.
In our project we report on people who have brain disease or brain injury, people who as a result experience the world differently.
Using various finishing techniques like scratch-off varnish, UV or scented varnish, we vividly convey what their worlds might look like, and what condition the afflicted person might be in.
Our goal is to help the reader dip into these worlds for a moment, through photography and design.
The result is a brand new way of helping us understand and see what life
is like for people with neurological malfunction.
