Whenever you talk about ornaments in contemporary design the consequences of the polemic paper „Ornament and Crime“ by Adolf Loos are still quite noticeable. Confident that ornaments are not superfluous, I tried with this final project to draft various functions of ornaments and express them in a creative form.
The result was a series of posters (11) transporting „ornamental crimes“, which is both ironic and provocing. Every poster shows a formal, aesthetical and functional aspect of ornaments, crossing theories of marcel duchamps, andy warhol, etc.. During the process of the project, a vast amount of material, typografic and formal experiments was created. For that reason I decided to design also a book to show, documentate and annotate the process and the posters. Topically I discussed Loos' arguments, but within the concept I wanted to detach from his theory; which explains the title of my work „Loosgelöst“ - Loosening Loos.
