We had to build teams up to three persons and research for interesting projects in the other departments at our university.

In collaboration with Jan Erlinghagen I ended up in the chemical faculty where paintings were developed to keep crabs from adhering to ships. So we designed a book about new cognitions in using anti-fouling paint.

As all texts were needlessly complicated for our purpose we had to revise the essay and only add explanatory hints in professional jargon. We decided to adapt the whole layout to our nautical topic. We chose ocean-colours, created a marine map as index and the continous texts were individually bent – depending on the chapters illustration and to draw a parallel to a wavering ship.

For continous texts and introductions we used adobe caslon pro as we wanted to follow the traditional look of old marine maps. Headlines and caps were set in museo sans 500.
