The topic Gender Identity played a large role in the course »Basics in Graphic Design«. The assignment was a photographic treatment of the topic. The students were asked to develop a visual statement in the medium of their choice. Christian Schlager interviewed and made portraits of friends, using their reactions to the word 'gender' as a basis for his book. The first visible image on each double page spread shows the blurred portrait of a person, and refers to images of roles in society. Tear the page open from the edge, and you are given a glimpse behind the facade. The focused portraits are complemented by Christain Schlager's original texts on the topic and lyrics by Gustav, Blumfeld and Reinald Goetz.
