Three Book projects inspired by Walter Benjamin, dealing with the auratic quality of place and distance.
The world is blue:
A series of booklets I produced with light-sensitive paper, which I prepared with screens and sent out to different people around the world to put it in the sun for 7 days. Each booklet was assembled from sheets from three different places.
This must be the place:
A book that holds a collection of slides, each merging two photos taken at exactly opposed places of the earth.
A sign that says nothing:
On the border to Switzerland, you can find signs on the German autobahn, that are not in use. The entire surface is nothing but blue. Put up in the middle of nowhere, a sign is meant to direct to a somewhere. Without that reference, the sign itself suddenly becomes a strange place with an auratic quality. The book holds
a series of photographs I took while wandering to that place and a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke.
