Aleph: the project and the realization
Aleph was designed for the course held by Leonardo Sonnoli at IUAV University of Venice. Its aim was to design a typographic installation site specific that conveys the mood of a piece of literature.
We worked on the story “The Aleph” by Jorge Luis Borges.
The Aleph is a point in space that contains all other points. Anyone who gazes into it can see everything in the universe from every angle simultaneously, without distortion or confusion.
We set our interpretation of “The Aleph” in the inner yard of Museo Fortuny, a Venetian-Gothic Palace that has unique oneiric atmospheres.
Playing with the law of perspective, we focused on the dichotomy between chaos/order and contemporary/consequent.
As you walk in the inner yard of Museo Fortuny you can see white letters of different size, placed apparently randomly, standing out in the dark background. But as you move forward you realize that there is a sense that you can get only in one specific point, from which you can read the correct sentence: the Aleph.
