A typeface’s functionality is always more important than its formal style. Legibility is the highest demand for a typeface's right to exist. However, perfect legibility cannot be defined absolutely. It is throughout an interaction between the viewer's personality, formal font-characteristics and the context of its use...
… What happens, if the difference between type-design and graphic-design can hardly be distinguished anymore? What if every letter turns into a headliner and breaks out of the homogenous system of “best legibility”? In how far can formal design parameters of a typeface be exaggerated or newly combined?
… Seven different fonts have been developed, by joining a scientific-experimental approach, an analogue handmade contention and digital processing. These fonts sample and even break the limits of legibility, respectively. The processes of developing these font types are documented in 7 booklets, which can additionally be folded out as posters, presenting the different types.
