This project is designing new typefaces using the grids and modules of Seoul pavement.
Bricks and Blocks build up various patterns by repeating simple periodic arrays or going in gear with each other.
These patterns in the pavement create giant grids in the city.
The process of collecting actual examples of sidewalk design of Seoul, classifying and analyzing examples as visual factors had been done and 8 grids has been selected as representing the pavement design of Seoul.
In the Seoul’s sidewalk, its unique culture and images dwells. Since those blocks constitute a spatial image,
I considered pavement grids as a symbolic meaning of transmitting media.
The purpose of this project is to form the regional culture of seoul and transmitting it by embodying cultural identity to the form of typefaces.
By combining modules and grids of sidewalk blocks, Seoul’s cultural images can be transmitted and spread as font, a meaning of communication.
