A visual audit is the process of collecting existing materials and critiquing for the purpose of assessing what assistive devices are currently available. This allows the designer to assess the components that are working and refine their investigation based on what is being revealed throughout the process of critique. In this project, devices were collected from AbleData.com, a website providing and cataloging aids for individuals with Autism. By creating an information graphic which categorized the devices, the following sections were highlighted and subcategorized: purpose, used by, medium, features and ability. The results suggested there are many time-focused devices related to scheduling routine, and sequencing of events for autistic individuals, but few address time perception - the sensitivity to experiencing time. This type of design research led to further investigation on this specific topic of time perception.
