In may 2008 we went to the former Yugoslavia for 3 months to do our project 'tourisme'. We went to search for interesting neighbourhoods. The idea was to focus on a small part of a city/village as a miniature version of a society, and make a reaction, which we call a 'neighbourhood product'. Basically we react to everything we hear and see. As graphic designers we eventually made a product with and for the people of that neighbourhood. This product was the summary of our experiences. The products we have made varied from a democratic mural for a building and its residents (Sarajevo - Bosnia), to a social map of a village, based on 197 neighbour benches (Putinci - Serbia), to the placement of one hundred disposable garbage bins for a city under construction (Prishtina - Kosovo). After returning to the Netherlands, we created our fourth project in Amsterdam; an interactive installation that allowed people in Holland to ask questions to our new friends from the Balkans.
