"Bom Bahia". This book offers a selection of different statistics and texts about Mumbai.
India is the country of textiles - A combination of intensive colours and delicate shapes on different fabrics.
I used these stylistic elements for my design of "Bom Bahia": Every illustration is stitched on jute with a great range of coloured twine. The graphics visualise official statistics of Mumbai. Every graphic interpretes the data in a different shape.
But the metropolis does not only stand for colourfulness and growth. There is another side – a side of problems and shattering fates. A statistic cannot show these flaws but they also find their places in the book. Next to the back side of a stitchery I integrated an emotional column of a German journalist. The downside of a graphic becomes the downside of Mumbai.
Specifics: 26 pages. Text printed on recycling paper. 6 graphics stitched on jute. Japanese binding. Button-facings on each illustration to take the graphics out of the book.
