The hummingbird deserves better than red plastic, fake flowers, and distracting forms.
This hummingbird feeder privileges the bird in that it recedes into the background when a bird is present, and by itself can function in the figure ground as a highly designed object. The materiality of the feeder communicates to the window in which it’s placed in front of, and speaks to the precision and permanence of architectural scale. Hand crafted in glass and metal, the feeder sheds all ornament, relying solely on the nectar it contains for color. It is nearly shapeless in that it does not attempt to mimic forms of nature. The inverted feed-speed spout holds the nectar in the feeder through principles of vacuum and surface tension, while at the same time allowing the hummingbird to feed seamlessly.
