For this particular assignment, I had to create a book cover for an artist of our choice. We were to explore figure ground, graphic transformation, stylization and scaling information. We had to convey our message clear and make sure there was contrast. I choose to do my project on Ben Folds. I had to find an image with high contrast, so I could turn it into a nice figure ground translation. I also wanted to make sure the picture would solve the problem and work with the title. After having the drawing down, scanned and cleaned up in Illustrator, I then needed to work on my title. I wanted something that obviously portrayed the image. After days of brainstorming, I settled with a song title by Ben himself. “It’s Always Someone Cooler Than You”. It fits perfect because the people who are truly cool are the ones who are fine with themselves and they are who they are. And here is Ben Folds, with his old style glasses and cheery grin, just being himself, being cooler than you.
