This dining set, Wally’s, represents my newest area of interest in production furniture design. By reflecting on my furniture studies in Copenhagen, Denmark, I concentrated on Danish design in all of its simplicity and intelligence. Most of the details and processes of this chair were designed with a CAD computer program. I separated the furniture into sections that were cut out two dimensionally on a CNC router from a 4’ x 8’ sheet of Oriented strand board (OSB) and assembled into a three dimensional final form. This produced small amounts of waste and gives the ability to be easily mass-produced. This piece evolved using conscious thought about affordable, accessible materials, and resourceful assembly. Keeping in mind the importance of not only aesthetics but how the furniture functions. The Wally’s dining set is designed so that the two end tables or leaves can be used in a variety of different ways such as independent tables, desks, or couch caddies.
