This work was done for a mandatory summer course entitled "Surveying Regional Architecture".
Every year, the course aims to survey a specific neighbourhood/village somewhere in Lebanon. To aim is to understand issues of morphology and vernacular architecture, while simultaneously enhancing students' drafting skills.
We surveyed the village of Broumanna - situated at about 30 minutes from Beirut at an altitude of +/- 800-1000 meters. It was a very prominent village in Ottoman times, and has since then continued developing. Today it is a popular resort for middle-to-upper class Lebanese and for tourists from the Gulf.
Each group was assigned a house and required to produce a complete set of drawings - plans, sections, elevations, and details. A 'theory' of possible evolution also had to be proposed.
All drawings drafted by hand.
