Castlefield Junction
Manchester
Castlefield is an inner city area of Manchester. The industrial revolution has left a substantial mark on the Castlefield area. Infrastructurally it became an important junction for an intense railway and canal network. One of the main railway bridges is now disused. The disused bridge will be developed as a park connecting the city centre to the suburbs as a stretched public spine. The twelve meter high bridge is accessible to the lower ground at four places. These connections are made through architecture. The project shown here is one of these connections. The gradual transition made from the bridge park to the lower ground creates the experience of one continuous park. Interwoven in this transitional path is a dance performance school. It creates a hybrid condition which allows the path of the park to be experienced as continuous and at the same time it houses a dance performance school.
