The project begins with identifying critical conditions in Las Vegas: strip, sprawl, lifestyled communities– substituting the natural desert environment; the rapid population growth; foreclosures; ecological issues. The concept explores formation of denser clusters, allowing for the areas between them to be taken back by the desert. Urban strategy: 1-tower insertions as a density seed for future development; 2–growth, encouraging the formation of higher density clusters around the tower; 3–clusters will be deployed in strategic infrastructural nodes of the city; 4–enabling in time the de-densification/desertification of the areas in between. The tower functions as a giant battery, g slab; and a shading device– following the tower growth in height, new building cores will be inserted in its shaded area, and new programs will be attracted. Other guidelines determine: daily life activities in walking distance; flexibility of modules to shift between various building scales and programs.
