Aad van Dommelen (1956) studied Graphic & Typographic Design at the Royal Academy of Art himself. He teaches Graphic Design and Typography there for more than 20 years, part time.

He has 25 years of experience as a Creative Director, at three well known graphic design and corporate identity agencies: Vorm Vijf in The Hague, Proforma in Rotterdam and Total Design / Total Identity in Amsterdam. He specializes in Corporate Design, Type Design and Typography and won several prizes.
In 2008 he founded Witvorm graphic design.

He did corporate identity projects for many cultural, commercial and non-profit institutions, including ministries, universities and large corporations, in The Netherlands and South Korea and designed magazines, typefaces and books.

He is a member of the Supervisory Board of The Association of Dutch Designers BNO.

The Royal Academy of Art (KABK) educates students to become independent and self-conscious artists and designers, who are driven by an experimental attitude and make a unique contribution to their field and to society.

The KABK offers courses in ArtScience, Fine Arts, Photography, Graphic Design, Interactive/Media/Design, Interior Design and Furniture design, and Textile and Fashion. In addition, the KABK offers the Master in Design of Type and Media, the Master in ArtScience and the Master in Artistic Research, as well as Industrial Design as a post graduate Course. In cooperation with the University of Leiden the Master of Science in Mediatechnology and the Master of Science in Photographic Studies is offered.

Teachers from the professional field prepare students for a professional career, offering the knowledge, skills and attitude needed. The KABK’s education is competence-aimed. The courses can be seen as foreshadowing of what a professional career will eventually entail. It is important that students show an increasing level of independence and self-direction.

Graphic Design
The Graphic design department of the KABK distinguishes itself by combining the conceptual and vocational aspects with the typographical aspects of the profession: courses in type design and typography. At an international level the KABK enjoys a great reputation in type design. KABK’s Graphic Design Programme also includes courses in interactive media design, professional orientation, extramural projects and apprenticeships. The teaching team is made up of visual artists, graphic and typographic designers and photographers, all of whom are professionally active.
Graphic Design is both a full-time and a part-time programme.
