Statistically speaking, every 11 seconds a girl becomes a victim of female genital mutilation. Usually you don‘t perceive this short amount of time. Do you notice three minutes? That is how long it takes to cut off a girl’s genitals with a rusty razor blade. This brochure deals with this ancient tradition. It reveals the whole extent of the brutal procedure as well as the social and cultural structures behind it.
There are four different covers for the same brochure, each showing one part of the human rights declaration, dealing for example with the right of children to be protected by the state.
The fact of a girl being mutilated every 11 seconds is present throughout the whole brochure. Whithin the train of reading there is a mark every 11 seconds counting the number of girls undergoing the cruel ritual.
The four brochures are sewed on different newspapers and magazine which correspond thematically with the human rights declaration on each cover.
The brochure comprises 76 pages on newsprint.
