Avant-garde cuisine combines traditional cooking and modern-day science. The interactions within this borderland produce dishes that can surprise and puzzle your mind. Similarly overarching and experimental the work MESSIER 102 shows dishes of avant-garde cuisine and microscope photographs of choice viands. At this, the lucid, graphical seeming and abstract imagery creates an aesthetic framework sui generis. The beauty lies within the concrete as well as beyond the visible as demonstrated by the microscope photographs. Inspired by astronomic catalogs the book‘s design takes up the approach of reinterpreting cuisine in a fresh and experimental way and creates an autonomous microcosm that allows a new fascinating view on avant-garde cuisine.
