Video projection installation
(live performance), 45:00

I was asked to design a backdrop for the New Haven Symphony Orchestra’s performance of “Façade,” an avant-garde music piece by Sir William Walton, at Yale’s Beinecke Library. Instead of creating a new screen, I decided to utilize the space's existing structure, the famous gridded marble wall of the library.

The video projection turned the thick, solid wall into something light and flexible—it appeared as if someone were pressing objects against the wall from outside. (The title of the piece, “Façade,” made me think about what is behind.) As the grid activates and changes shape, the wall assumes three-dimensionality and becomes a protagonist.
